Upper Broughton Tennis Club held a very successful and enjoyable Open Day from 12 noon to 4pm on Sunday 17 May. The event was themed as a “Free Family Tennis Open Day” and was broadly advertised around the local villages and primary schools, through village newsletters, posters and leaflets. There were refreshments available – BBQ, Cakes and Drinks - and a charity raffle, and despite the cool weather, we attracted a large number of new families to come and try their hand at tennis, along with many local villagers who came to support and enjoy the event.
Our excellent coach, Laura Morley, worked hard all day to enthuse the young (and older) newcomers, and also ran a Cardio Tennis session to show the fun you can have keeping fit! We offered a small membership incentive if people joined on the day, and the result was eight new families becoming full members, three temporary members (from overseas) and four more children signing up for an already busy Junior Coaching Programme. We also had great uptake for a Kid’s Summer Camp to run during the School Holidays. A number of adults who are either returning to tennis, or just taking the sport up, have signed up for a block of coached “taster” sessions, with the likelihood that they will then join the club as members.
The Committee, and many senior members, and their families all played their part in running the event and helping to make it such a great success.
