Report

We had high hopes this year for promotion, but with the late withdrawals of Marcus and Dom West due to Injuries, this would push us back from favorites to 2nd or 3rd in the group.

Day 1 – Notts V Lincolnshire

Day 1 - Singles

Team for singles: 6 Jamie Chester, 5 Jacob Clark, 4 Eban Straker- Meads, 3 Max Bartholomew, 2 Pierre Luiggi, 1 Donovan Cellupica-Towers

James played great with a power game, he went 3-0 up, and never looked back, winning 6-1, 6-4.

Clark had a slow start but won the second, set but sadly lost the last 2-6, 6-4, 1-6.

Eban looked great, he won 6-3, 6-0.

Max played Henry Beesley and he was the only player to take a set off of him in singles all weekend, but lost 6-3, 2-6, 1-6.

Pierre had a very close match, that swung on just a few points, and could have lost in the second, however he won 4-1, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Donovan was up against the very talented Joe Woolley, he will surely be the difference between the two teams, Joe won 4-6, 2-6.

With the score being 3-3 after the singles, bring on the doubles.

Day 1 - Doubles

Jacob and James missed too many volleys in good positions losing 5-7, 3-6. (10-5)

Donovan and Pierre are a great first pair, winning a close match 6-4, 2-6 (10-4)

We are now down to the final match, but again we were up against Joe Woolley, Max and Eban worked hard but couldn’t do enough against the massive power game and lost 1-6, 4-6

Notts lost 4 rubbers to 5.

Day 2 - Notts V Cambridge

After day one we had two players Max and Jacob needing to pull out and rest from the singles matches due to small physical problems to be at our best for day three.

Team for singles: 6 Daniel Blackburn, 5 James Wood, 4 James Chester, 3 Eban Straker-Meads, 2 Pierre Luiggi, 1 Donovan Cellupica- Towers.

We wanted Dan and James to play a match to get them ready to play for our team next year, they both played well, Dan lost 5-7, 3-6 and James lost 1-6, 3-6.  James Chester won at 4 even though his body was hurting 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Eban was also injured after day 1 and needed to be pulled out of his singles 5-7 down but up 3-2 in games in the second.

Pierre won a very close match again 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5).

Donovan went into his match at number 1 and it was looking like I would be another hard day at the office for him I’m sad to say he played hard but Donovan lost 4-6, 1-6.

so we had lost 1-5, on the day

Day 2 - Doubles

Donovan and Max lost at 1st pair 2-6, 6-4 (5-10).

Pierre and James Chester’s doubles match needed to be a walkover due to James having a small pull in his back. And we lost the last doubles match, Josh Parmenter played with Jacob and lost 1-6, 4-6 at 3rd pair.

A lost day to injuries, but we will be fresh for day 3 and it’s a must win day for us.

Day 3 - Notts V Devon

With our team ready for the win today, the team line up was the same as day 1.

James Chester won his singles to make it 3 wins out of 3, winning 6-3, 6-4.  Jacob won a very close match, proving vital in breaking the hearts of Devon 7-6 & 2-6, 6-3.

Eban cruised his match winning 6-2, 6-3, well done mate and proving the most improved player on last year.

Max had another hard match losing 4-6, 5-7

Pierre and Donavan on next to win the day for us, Pierre lost the first set to a massive service from the Devon player, but went on to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Donavan enjoyed his match following two very hard days winning 6-2, 6-0, winning the day for Notts keeping us up in division 3 for yet another year.

Day 3  Doubles

Donavan and Pierre won at 1 6-0, 6-2

Jacob and James lost 5-7, 2-6

Eban and Daniel lost in three sets 5-7, 6-3 (5-10)

Thanks to my Vice Captain Callum Chivers

I would like to thank players leaving the team due to age:

Donavan following four years of service, Jacob three years of service, Joshua Parmenter and Max both completing one year of service.

Let’s hope we manage to get our full and fit team out next year
