Nottinghamshire Junior County Championships 2015

Held at the County Ground in the Park Estate.

Monday 24th August to Saturday 29th August 2015

12yr old Millie-Mae Matthews, from Ratcliffe-on-Soar, won two singles titles last week at the Nottinghamshire Junior County Championships tennis tournament, beating Millie Wileman from West Bridgford 6-0 6-0 in the U12 girls’ singles final & Jasmine Ramsden from Gedling 6-0 6-0 in the U14 girls’ singles final.    Millie-Mae also reached the quarter finals of the U12 girls’ singles event in the National Championships in Bournemouth recently.

Millie Wileman made up for her defeat to Millie-Mae by winning the U10 girls’ singles title.    Frances Benson from Magdala Tennis Club won the U18 girls singles title beating Katy Fuller 6-2 7-5 and also the U18 mixed doubles title partnering James Chester, beating Katy Fuller & Ben Towle.

Eban Straker-Meads retained his U18 boys’ singles title beating Daniel Blackburn 6-1 6-2 but lost the U21 Mens’ singles title to Jack Elliss.   Daniel Blackburn recovered to win the U16 boys singles title 6-3 6-3 over Jack McLachlin. William Caunt won the U14 boys singles beating Luke Ince in a match deciding tie-break 10-5 and also won the U14 boys doubles title with Rishi Kalia beating Kade Straker-Meads & Puneet Sunner 6-2 6-4.  Puneet was the U12 boys singles winner beating Rhys Biro-Moore 6-4 6-1.

In the mini tennis section of the tournament, the green ball under 10 event was won by Phoenix Weir who beat Ishy Han 4-0 4-0.    Phoenix teamed up with younger brother Indy to win the U9 doubles final.

The under 9 Orange event was played at The Park Tennis Club on Friday 28th August, with Ishy Han winning a boys round robin event and Connor Green finishing as runner up.  Mia Wainwright won the girls U9 event.    Thirteen under 9 Orange players took part in the event.

The under 8 Red event was played at Nottingham Tennis Centre on Thursday 27th August, with 12 players participating.     Hugo Dunn won with Ethan Lincoln coming second in the round robin event.

Rick Britton, LTA Councillor for Nottinghamshire, presented the prizes on behalf of Nottinghamshire LTA.
