Wednesday, April 08, 2015

Both  Girls and Boys 8U teams did Essex proud but narrowly missed out on victory!  The event was played with great effort and enthusiasm.  Well done to all players and a big thank you to parents and all those who came along to support.

Essex started nervously but still registered a 4.2 win against Oxfordshire. Then followed a 3 all draw with Buckinghamshire.

Essex then came to life and thumped Northants 6.0 and followed this up with an excellent win 4.2 win against a strong Berks team.

This meant we won the box and set up a semi final match with Norfolk. The whole team were really up for this match and we recorded a easy 6.0 win!

Onto the final where we played our arch rivals Hertfordshire who had just scraped through on points in their match against Berks. The final was a close battle and the final score was 3 all.

Unfortunately we lost on points so therefore finished 2 overall but were unbeaten on the day. Its was a great team effort and the girls were happy with their silver medals :)

Report from the Boys Captain

Team:   James Stanley, Fabian Young , Otto Friedlein, Flynn Godfrey, Jules Hardy, Joseph Oluwatimileyin Oni and Nathan Dakoh

Knowing the girl’s team had just lost a very close final on point count back Hertfordshire; the boys knew they had to go for it!

Essex started well, winning 5 matches to 1 against Northamptonshire but then quickly had a dip in concentration losing 4-2 to Norfolk.

It was a tough box; with many individual matches going to sudden death but due to some fantastic performances Essex battled through their box beating Suffolk and Bedfordshire 4-2.

This meant Essex won the box and set up a semi final match with Cambridgeshire, who were a very steady team. Essex was head to head all the way and knew every individual point counted. The match finished 3-3 and on count back Essex won by 5 points.

Onto the final to play our arch rivals Hertfordshire. Essex had a fantastic start winning 3-1 with some brilliant performances. The momentum quickly shifted into Hertfordshire favour and the match finished 3-3.

After a nail biting point count back, Hertfordshire were awarded champions.

As captain I would like to say a big well done to all the players efforts and attitudes throughout the day. A great effort achieving 2nd place but the moral of the story ‘EVERY POINT COUNTS’!!

Thank you for the parents support.
