Essex Men's Over 55 county team had another 5 - 0 victory at the weekend beating Cumbria on Sunday 16th August. The match was played indoors at Redbridge and showed the strength of our squad by recording a comfortable victory with 2 regular players unavailable through injury. Colin Minter our no. 1 singles won comfortably against Richard Morris 6-2, 6-2. In the second singles Iain MacDonald playing his first match for the team this season beat Peter Helme 6-3, 7-5. The doubles pairing of Wayne Lemoine and Trevor Stone playing together for the first time in a match were comfortable winners 6-1, 6-3 against Paul Slight and Phil Cook.
With a lead of 3-0 after the 1st round the reverse doubles in the second round also produced comfortable wins with Wayne and Trevor winning 6-0, 6-1 and Colin and Iain winning 6-3, 6-2.
We have now won all four of our matches with one remaining against Surrey in early September. Surrey have lost a match, but we will need to beat them to be sure of winning the division.
