Entry has now opened for the Grade 4 Chelmsford Junior Tennis Association Postal Tournament sponsored by Pope & Smith
Founded in 1975 the Association runs a summer junior singles and doubles postal tournament each year for junior club members who play their tennis in Essex.
There are some exciting changes for 2014
- For the first time the tournament will be a Grade 4 with Ranking points available for the whole tournament not just the finals.
- We have extended our catchment area to players who are members of Clubs situated within a 25 mile radius of Chelmsford’s Shire Hall.
- We are now able to accept online entries via the LTA Competition site, click on the link or search for ESS14S0375 Pope & Smith Chelmsford Junior Postal.
- The tournament starts and finishes within the 2014 Summer season – main draw and consolation.
- First round matches will be issued ready for the competition to commence on the 1st April 2014.
- The Main Draw Finals will be held at the start of the summer holidays on Saturday 19th July 2014 – venue to be confirmed.
- The Consolation Finals will be held on Saturday 23rd August 2014 – venue to be confirmed.

How does a postal tournament work?
- You must be a British Tennis Member and be a registered member of a Tennis Club situated within a 25 mile radius of Chelmsford.
- This is a great tournament if you are just venturing into junior competition and gives you the chance to visit other clubs in Essex.
- Match notifications will be sent to you on email so make sure your contact details are up to date and correct.
- If you are the HOME player you play at your club, if you are selected as the AWAY player you play at your opponents club.
- As long as you observe the match deadlines, you can play at a convenient time for both you and your opponent.
- Depending on the size of your draw we normally give you a two week period to play each of your matches.
- You send the result back to us and we send out your next match on email, and that's how the tournament progresses throughout the summer.
- If you do go out of the main draw after your first match then you will automatically go into the consolation draw and the same process continues.
