Thorpe Bay V Great Baddow
Sun 25th Apr 2010 at Deanes Sports College
After a long winter both clubs had the luxury of indoor courts so that the weather would not affect the event finale
Both Bay and Baddow had to field a different team to usual as their regular teams were involved in the AEGON national club league.
Representing Thorpe Bay were Dave Tubbs, Lee Blackman, Harry Randle and Will Todd, while Great Baddow were represented by Chris Raynor, Rob Collins, Graham Raynor and Gareth Thomas.
Bays 1st pairing, Tubbs and Blackman, went up against C Raynor and Collins for their first match, and Randle and Todd would play G Raynor & Thomas to open. Thorpe Bay took the early lead through Tubbs and Blackman (6-3 / 6-4), but had to wait for Todd & Randle, who were a set down to Baddows G Raynor and Thomas 6-7. A remarkable comeback, saw the pair 2nd pair take the second set 6-1, meaning that Bay were ahead 3 sets to 1 after the first round of fixtures.
In the second round of fixtures Todd & Randle had take on C Raynor & Collins. Chris & Rob would prove too much for Harry and William, taking the match 6-2 / 6-4. However, Tubbs and Blackman had the measure of G Raynor and Thomas in their second rubber winning 6-1 / 6-2 to take the match and with it the Champions League title.
