U10 COUNTY CUP REPORT
– BOLTON 11TH 12TH JUNE
The eight teams that made it through to the national finals in Bolton were, Surrey, Leicestershire, Essex, South Wales, Middlesex, Scotland East, Avon and Yorkshire.
The Essex team remained unchanged from the regional event with Cameron Isbell playing at No.1 Rittik Anand at 2, Alexander Groves 3and Joseph Lampon our Traveling reserve.
Our quarter final was against South Wales, a close first match saw Cameron winning in 3 sets, rittik was unlucky to lose his in the 3rd set. Alex won comfortably to take the tie to 2-1.
Cam and Alex showed great fight to come back from 0-2 down in both sets to take a 5-4, 5-4 win!
Essex 3 South Wales 1
Next up were the No.1 seeds Surrey, Cameron was in unbelievable form taking the first set 4-1 against Jack Draper, last weeks masters winner but unfortunately went down fighting in the final set. Rittik and Alex then both lost in straight sets. Joseph Lampon who had been incredibly supportive for the team stepped up with Rittik in the doubles and won in 3 sets to make sure he had a 100% record for the weekend and regain Essex pride!
Essex 1 Surrey 3
All the boys were up early on Sunday, determined to cement third place, this was looking good when Cameron and Rittik both beat the Middlesex 1 & 2 respectively. But a loss for Alex and a doubles loss for Cameron and Rittik leveled the match at 2-2.
Everyone was on the edge of their seats for the shootout (especially me!!) but we unluckily went down fighting 11-9.
Essex 2 Middlesex 2 ½
All the boys put in great effort all weekend and to finish as the 4th county in the country is a truly great achievement. A big thanks to all the parents for all their support – I’m sure standing up watching tennis for 2 days is not an easy task!
And finally… a big thanks to (new father) Tom to all his hard work of making these great young players a great team prospect for Essex in the future.
