The Essex Junior Winter Ratings Series reached its climax with the finals at Redbridge Sports Centre on the 21st and 22nd April 2012. This was the culmination of 1 day indoor ratings tournaments that took place during the winter. In these tournaments, the winner obtained 2 points for a win and 1 point for a set won. All the points were added up and the players with the most points were invited to the finals.
The girl’s event was played as a round robin format. Emily Watts (Rayleigh) beat Sarah Stannard (DL Basildon) in the final, having won all her matches comfortably.
The boy’s event was split into two groups, which was decided by age. Some of the matches in the early stages in the younger group were rather one sided. From the semi-finals onwards the matches became very close and competitive. In the older age group, Nick Carscadden (Prested Hall) beat David Mould (Cranston Park) in a very close match. Gianluca Broadley (Westcliff Hardcourts) played well all weekend but was pushed in an exciting final against Harry Needham (Thorpe Bay). It was a very successful weekend, where all the players went home with a trophy, for reaching the Finals. The tournament was sponsored by Essex County LTA.
The Final and most of the events were organised and refereed by Lesley and Ian Pitt.
