Marshall Tutu (Woodford Wells) won his first Essex Closed titles this year. This he did in great style, winning both the 18 and under and 21 and under singles. He played brilliantly all week, not dropping a set in either event. In the 21 and under event he beat higher rated and home club player, Matthew Pearce. In recognition of his brilliant play he was also awarded the most improved player of the Tournament award.
Marshall has gained his first world ranking points at the Aegon GB pro series at the Cumberland club. Part of his pre match routine to relax is to play piano. Follow the link below and see Marshall in action!

We would like to add a big thank you to all the volunteers at Thorpe Bay LTC who without them, this Tournament would not have happened. The Tournament desk was run with its usual efficiency by Russell Pickup (Tournament Chairman), Michael Baggs (Club Chairman) and Kaye Gordon (Club Subscriptions Secretary) and John Aggus, who organised the court supervisors, which helped give Tournament Referees Lesley and Ian Pitt an easy path. Also Jan Barton and the ladies who kept everyone fed all the week.
The Referee’s Trophy was awarded to Nicola Calverley (Billericay).
