David Lloyd Gidea Park Tournament a great success

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Blessed with fine weather, the David Lloyd Gidea Park 4 day tournament was a great success.    The boy’s entries were similar to last year but the girl’s numbers were disappointing.    However the girls 16 and under final was an exciting match with Erica Izatt (Connaught) again beating Caitlyn Hardy (Gidea Park) in straight sets.    Joanna Rimmington (Hockley) played brilliantly, although only 12 years old, winning 2 of her matches against older opponents.

Nick Carscadden coming to Gidea Park, straight from winning the 18 and under event at Westcliff Hardcourts last week, won the same event with ease.

In the boys 14 and under event, Darien Lamb (Westcliff Hardcourts) had 3 tough rounds before playing Will Thomson (Connaught) in the final.    He lost the first set and trailed in the second just nicking it in the tiebreak and then won the 3rd set championship fairly comfortably.

Max Chesher (Westcliff Hardcourts) in the 16 and under event also had some tough rounds to get through.   He won a long semi-final against Levi Lowe-Lennon (Connaught) just beating him in the championship tiebreak.   He then played, Harry Melliush (Harlow) in the final, winning in 2 close sets.

Toby Dunlea (Cranston Park) convincingly won the boys 12 and under event, losing only 3 games on the way to the title.

The players not only enjoyed the tennis but the superb facilities at the Club.   Our thanks go to Emily De’ath, DLGP General Manager and her staff, who looked after everyone very well.

The event was organised and refereed by Lesley and Ian Pitt.
