The Connaught Tennis Club ran the Inaugural Rod Petchey's Mens Doubles Tournament to celebrate his long standing 50 year membership to the club and his major contribution to tennis . Rod has performed at all levels of the game and has represented GB and Essex. His dedication to tennis has been seen on many levels especially from having the pleasure of watching his son play on the hallowed turf of Wimbledon to being an Essex counsellor as well as a coach and mentor to juniors on the circuit.
After the original April date was washed out due to the lovely british weather! a new date was rearranged for Saturday 21st June when the weather was slightly kinder. The day saw 20 Men turn out for an American Style tournament which included a sit down lunch and a chance for Rod and his wife Avril to catch on with members that they do not see very often.
The winner was Scott Mills who narrowly won by one point over Rod with David Foster coming in a very close third place. The tennis section is hoping that the tournament will grow and are already looking into next years diary for a date.
