Essex Men were promoted as Champions and it was very good effort all round by the team to defeat Leicestershire, West of Scotland, Cheshire and North of Scotland. We did manage successive 9-0 victories against West of Scotland and Cheshire but unfortunately on the last day were beaten for the second year running by Cambridge, although this year went up as Champions as Cambridge lost to Leicestershire.
This year everyone played well and I was very pleased that young James Caddies (15) was able to play a round on the final day.
I believe that the team has a great deal of belief in general and it would not surprise me if we were able to obtain promotion again from Group 2 in the Winter in November and next Summer.
My thanks also go to all the supporters and to the sponsor Eddie Kirtland, not only for his financial contribution but to the 3 days of support that he gives to us each year.
I would also like to congratulate the Ladies Team under the Captaincy of Mel Holmes, who also gained promotion.
