Marconi Junior Tennis Tournament

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

The Marconi Tennis Club Junior Open Tournament was held over 3 days and apart from one afternoon of torrential rain, in good weather.  The courts were excellent, as were the other facilities at the Club.

In the boys 12 and under event, Essex players, Henry Hammond (Woodford Wells) and Ralph Bartlett (Harlow), both still under 10, put up a good fight, losing out Joshua Bright (Halton TC), No 1 seed and eventual winner.    Home club player, James Gowers, won the consolation, beating higher rated William Stockford (Gosling TC) in the final.

Matthew Doe (Great Baddow), who missed out on winning the 14 and under event last year, beat Adam Groves (Redbridge TC) in an exciting final. Alexander Goldhawk (Deanes) won the consolation, beating James Mitty (Chelmsfordians) in the final.

Having won his first open tournament at Redbridge last week, Louis Ridding (Gidea Park), continued his excellent form, beating the No 1 and 2 seeds to win the 16 and under event convincingly.   Adam Kirchel (Grove (Chelmsford) LTC) won the consolation.

Two Essex players, competed in the 18 and under event, where Darien Lamb (Westcliff Hardcourt TC) beat Neo Wren (Gidea Park) in straight sets.   James Sammons (Gidea Park), won the consolation final.

Although Abigail Michelow (Virgin Active Clearview) struggled in the early rounds of the girls 14 and under event, she won the final easily.   Tanisha Schumacher (Redbridge TC) had a good tournament, beating the No 1 seed on her way to the final of the 16 and under event.  She lost a close match in the final to the No 2 seed, Amy Fotheringham (West Heath TC).

The event was organised and referred by Lesley and Ian Pitt.
