Local Hero wins Regional award for outstanding contribution to Tennis in Essex

Richard Blackburn LTA Councillor Essex LTA added: “It is an honour for Essex to have two regional winner in the first year of the Aegon British Tennis Awards. Their contribution towards local tennis in Essex has been outstanding and the award is fully deserved. We wish Malcolm and Evie every luck as they now go forward to be judged by a national panel for the title of national award winners.

The awards are a joint initiative between The Lawn Tennis Asociation (LTA), the Tennis Foundation, partner Aegon and 40 local/national tennis associations, including Essex LTA. The Awards reward and champion the people who deliver tennis in communities across Great Britain.

 The regional winners are: 

  • Volunteer Award – Malcolm Sedgwick, Thorpe Bay Tennis Club
  • Young Volunteer Award – Evie Page, Hylands CASC
  • Coach Award – Graham Fish, Leverstock Green Tennis Club
  • Club Award – Cambridge LTC
  • Community Award – Park Tennis CIC
  • Disability programme award – Riverside LTC
  • Education Award – Charters School
  • Outstanding Achievement – Angie Gunn, Cassiobury LTC 

The winners now go through to a national judging panel with winners to be invited to a national ceremony to be held in London in June 2016.
