Bryan Watts/Eddie Kirtland Invitational Tournament 2017

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Alex is only just 16 and played superbly all weekend defeating Richard Wire (although carrying a shoulder injury from the start of the event) and David Wright who injured himself in the second set after losing the first to Alex. Notwithstanding the injuries, neither of these regular team players gave in at all and Alex’s strength mentally, was clear to see throughout the weekend.

Matt Pearce had a good tournament with solid victories over two more of our best juniors Rittik Anand and Will Butler.

Marshall Tutu won the event with a 6-0, 6-2 over Matt in the semis and a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alex in the final. Marshall’s performance over the weekend was sublime, focused and almost faultless.

I would like to thank Graham Ray as ever for his help in arranging this event and also Will Calvert who kindly refereed on the Sunday.

As I have always maintained these events are a wonderful way of integrating our younger players into the senior ranks and it was good to have a couple of very much younger players in the event this weekend.
