The inaugural Marconi Tennis Club Junior Open Tournament was held over 2 days on the 24th and 25th July in glorious sunshine. The grade 4 tournament event was played on the 6 new excellent courts at the Chelmsford home of Marconi.
The girl’s event, which was won comfortably by Zuzanna Glowacz (Westcliff Hardcourts), beating No 1 seed Sherria Daniel (White Hart lane Tennis Club) in the final.
The boys 12 and under event was an excellent standard, where Matthew Doe (Mountnessing) won an exciting match against Harry Lister (Mountnessing) (Pictured above). Local player Luca Gaborovic (Rochford) won the consolation.
The largest event was the 14 and under boys singles, where James Sammons (Raphael Park) comfortably won the event, beating the No 2, 3 and 4 seeds on the way. Oliver Whitworth (DL Chigwell) won the consolation.
In the high standard 16 and under boys singles Darien Lamb (Westcliff Hardcourts) had an easy win in the final, after a tough semi-final against James Sammons. Calum Tween (Chemsfordians) had a brilliant run to the finals, beating the No 2 and 4 seeds on the way.
