Essex Tennis is delighted to announce the local heroes who have been honoured as part of the Aegon British Tennis Awards. Malcolm Sedgwick of Thorpe Bay LTC has been named as the Volunteer of the Year for Essex after giving many years’ service to the game. The winners received their awards and prizes at the recent LTA/Essex Spring Forums on 3rd and 10th March at Redbridge and Marconi.
Hutton and Shenfield LTC, Rayleigh LTC and the University of East London were awarded the best venues in the County for tennis, based on criteria such as coaching, opportunities to play and compete. They are all now in the running to be awarded a National Award, which could see them collect a £5,000 facility grant and a visit from a tennis legend.
The standard of the entries was really high and we would like to congratulate all of the winners for their achievement. The judges had a tough job to select the winners due to the overwhelming contribution made at tennis venues across Essex.
The awards are a join initiative between the LTA, the Tennis Foundation, Aegon and the 40 County Associations including Essex Tennis. The awards recognise and champion the people who deliver tennis in communities across Great Britain.
