Epping Tennis Club are pleased to welcome as their new Head Coach, David Watson, who is a LTA level 4 senior club coach, following the departure of Matt Smith.
Whilst at Epping, Matt won the prestigious award of AEGON LTA Coach of the Year, which helped him to a great move to become the Community Coaching Manager at Bath University.
David Watson has coached at several clubs across Essex and will be taking over a wide ranging coaching programme at Epping where over 120 juniors and minis are developing their skills, and he will be supporting the wider development of the club, working with adult players, both new to the sport or returning to tennis, as well as those with more experience.
Mark Hallewell, Epping Tennis Club’s Chairman, said that “Through David’s skills and experience, we are looking forward to seeing the further development of the club for the benefit of our members – David will help to accelerate, motivate, promote and improve all our juniors and seniors, and if that leads to more people wanting to join Epping as a member, and even to be the new Andy Murray, then that will be great.”
Mark also congratulated David on his great win last week at the Essex Men’s Closed Tournament which was held at Thorpe Bay, where David beat Harry Randle in a tight two hour, three-set match final, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
David said “‘I played some of my best tennis against a worthy opponent. From winning this County Tournament I hope to inspire the younger generation at Epping Tennis Club to fulfil their potential as one day being tennis stars of the future”.
