Theydon Bois LTC once again held their 5th Annual Mini Tournament – an event which is a great favourite with children and adults alike.
Matches are played on LTA Red Ball courts, and I should like to thank Lyn O’Brien from the Essex LTA for all her help and advice, since the outset of this event at Theydon Bois Tennis Club – and for the loan of the additional equipment, i.e. mini nets and small racquets.
The Tournament is aimed at allowing the younger members of the club take part in a ‘proper’ competition, and so to help this along, they are partnered by an adult (Mum, Dad, Grandad, Uncle etc). They are then arranged in small ability groups, each of which plays a Round Robin format, using simply scoring. This year 20 children took part in four groups.
The games can become highly competitive, especially if they involve Mum and Dad, and rival siblings, but the focus is most definitely on the children! Matches are always played in good spirit, and great fun is had by all, and this year was no exception.
Despite the heavy rain earlier in the day, we were still able to go ahead as planned, and as ever, there were many Mums and Dads, family and friends who came along to cheer on their teams.
All Competitors received a Certificate and a Jubilee Medal, and then each Section winner, also received a Competition medal.
The Event winners were
Red Group 1:
George Cushing, partnered by his Grandad, Ken.
Blue Group 2:
Harry Smith, partnered by his Mum, Susan
Orange Group 3:
Katy Lechley, partnered by her Dad, Neil (winner for the
second year running)
Green Group 4:
Toby Terrell, partnered by his Mum, Mel (winner for the
second year running)
